This also explains why firmware version updates, manuals, and every link on the Creality store listing are completely broken and don't point to anything for the Mage. I think what happened was they made way too many of these things and needed to clear the inventory space out, so someone may have jumped the gun and listed them on Amazon prematurely (which explains why even people who preordered them haven't received them yet). Here's why: Even on Creality's site, the Mage is still listed as a preorder to be shipped out after April 30th. So, here's what I'm thinking happened: This is going to be supported by Lychee and Chitu. I guess a workaround is using Lychee to do all my supports and whatnot and slice it in Halot Box, but that's one heck of a workaround in order to use this. If the Mage really does require a file format that Lychee doesn't support yet (and who knows if it ever will), I'm not sure what I'll do, since I did score it at such a low cost I don't want to return it only to have it supported two months from now, but I'm also potentially saddling myself with a $250 brick. However, someone who is a rep at Creality has responded to a FB post and said they are reaching out to Lychee and Creality tech support to get it listed. *EDIT* So, I emailed Lychee, and they officially said they have no support for it. $250 for a printer, no matter how good it might be, is worthless if the slicer we're forced to use is half-baked. I might end up sitting on this for the next few weeks and hopefully something will come of it, otherwise I might just return it to Amazon before the 30 day period is up. Creality doesn't even list the Mage on any of its support pages to see if there's a firmware update. I get being an early adopter sucks sometimes, but yikes. Unfortunately, there is no built-in option for it yet (probably because it's so new), but another concern is that I read that the Mage uses CXDLP v4, but Lychee only supports 2 & 3.Īnyone have any ideas on using Lychee for this? Creality provides Halot Box software and provides 3 months of Chitubox Pro for free, but Lychee is superior to Chitu, I already pay for one subscription, and the included Halot Box is rather awful to use (it doesn't even support drag & drop for files!). But, I'd like to stick with using Lychee as my slicer since I pay for it, and it works for my other resin printers just fine. Applying a time of 17.6 (well, 18s…) seconds would likely have further improved the quality of these first layers by limiting this unnecessary over-exposure time.At the $250 Amazon sale price, I had to jump on it! Just got it, and yep. We opted for a longer time in our test above because manufacturers often recommend exposure times of the first layers longer than necessary to reduce the risk of failed prints. If we follow this rule and take the highest factor, we should have exposed 17.6 seconds (4.4s for regular layers x 4)… which is far from the 45 seconds of this test! This resin requires a longer exposure time than classic resins. Going back to one of the key points of Jan Mrázek’s article, it is recommended to overexpose by 1.5 to 3 times the time of the regular layers (we prefer 3 to 4 times on our side). Siraya Tech Navy Grey resin has been used with an Elegoo Mars 3. It is crucial to consider an important point regarding the test result above: the exposure time was 45 seconds for these first 100 micron layers. It’s not perfect, though: the shape still lacks a little bit of sharpness. It’s excellent and very close to the upper side, modulo the texture of the build plate, which is quite visible. Finally, you can see the piece’s base on the right side. However, we can ignore this minor distortion: this photo is an extreme close-up (compared with the size of the thumb), and you need a magnifying glass to see such deformation. In the middle, with a slightly different point of view, we can see a slight distortion at the inner corners of the teeth. The compensation has been set to grey pixels at 20% for the under-exposed layers. Here is the result: a view from the top on the left side.
